Book Review in International Therapist Magazine
~ By Jennifer Wayte FICHT FHFS, AAP ARP ~
Marketing for Complementary Therapists is a soft back book,
containing I72 pages packed with innovative marketing information, making it extremely good value. The book is
aimed at therapists in all branches of complementary therapies/ medicine. Indeed, most areas are mentioned
throughout the book, with specifics when needed. Those of you who are studying for their Business Plan module/unit
need look no further for marketing ideas - you will be inundated.
Newly qualified and well established practitioners would both benefit from owning this book. Those just
starting out will gather lots of information and ideas, and those with more experience will be able to upgrade
their marketing strategies and maybe find ways to make their budget more cost effective.
Although the key /sole topic is marketing, the information is so diverse and groundbreaking, it captures
its audience. Being in business all my adult life, both practising and teaching, I thought I knew it all.
Reading this book woke me up.
Marketing for Complementary Therapists carries a positive attitude throughout and gives confidence in its
ability to help. The material contained has been extremely well researched and is professionally presented.
The layout is simple to follow and the chapters flow smoothly from one point to another.
I found some areas so interesting, I marked my copy with 2 different colour codes: one colour for areas I was
extremely keen to try, and another for topics of general interest. Here are a few areas I thought were worth
mentioning:
• In depth and easy to follow information on the use of the Web and on-line directories.
• How to communicate session fees to clients - often a difficult subject for new practitioners.
• Promotional material preparation - easy to follow instruction for brochures, business cards, newsletters,
flyers etc.
• How to retain your clientele. - the secret we all need to know!
I would certainly recommend this book both to students and members of my FHT Local Branch who will be covering
this subject soon. I will most definitely be keeping a copy on my shelf - once I have tried out a few the ideas
I have earmarked.
Congratulations to Steven Harold - a book I wish I could have written myself, and one that has been long awaited.
